Help Support Anthropology Students at NIU!

Anthropology graduate students at NIU conduct research all around the world, in archaeology, primatology, cultural anthropology and linguistics. Help us provide grants to get them there!

Anthropology is the study of humankind, across all borders and continents, as well as the study of our nonhuman primate relatives. Anthropology research ranges from purely academic (promoting a better understanding of ourselves) to highly applied (promoting social justice, cross-cultural understanding, conflict resolution and landscape conservation). Our MA students in Anthropology study through coursework and then design and conduct research projects around the world. Our students have studied language in Tonga, rural indigenous societies in Thailand, endangered primates in Madagascar and Bolivia, archaeology in Peru, and much more. Many of these projects have long-lasting non-academic impacts, such as improving monitoring techniques for endangered primates, or amplifying the voices of marginalized peoples. We rely on donor support to supply our graduate students with seed funding – covering costs such as airfares, research equipment, local staff and lab analyses, as well as partial support of attendance at professional conferences to share their findings. Each student can request up to $500 for research funding and $250 for conference travel. These modest seed grants can help launch diverse careers ranging from research and teaching to activism, social work, museum work and conservation management. Thank you for your donation!
