Help Support Divine Nine Students at NIU!

The 1964 Epsilon Phi Scholar Fund, established in honor of the 60th anniversary of the Epsilon Phi Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., recognizes outstanding fraternity members and other members of the National Pan-Hellenic Council (Divine Nine) at Northern Illinois University. This scholarship underscores Alpha Phi Alpha’s focus on supporting: manly deeds, scholarship, and love for all mankind. The fund rewards academic excellence and supports students with demonstrated financial need, capturing the essence of the fraternity’s aims.

Preference is given to a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. who maintains a GPA of at least 3.0 and demonstrates financial need. For many years, Kathleen Brunson, a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and the beloved spouse of James Brunson, a member of the Epsilon Phi Chapter, served as Director of Student Financial Aid at NIU. She helped many members of the fraternity, as well as thousands of other students. In her honor, if no member of Alpha Phi Alpha meets the criteria, the scholarship will be offered to a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., followed by members of any Divine Nine organization who meet the same standards.

The scholarship symbolizes of the fellowship among the Divine Nine members at NIU and affirms the importance of supporting those who strive for academic achievement while contributing to the rich culture and legacy of the Pan-Hellenic community.

This scholarship is not only a source of financial support but also a means of fostering leadership and excellence within the historically Black Greek-letter organizations that have been pillars of strength, advocacy, and community engagement at NIU.
