Help Send Our Art Students to Poland!

The “Exploring Contemporary Graphic Design in Poland” study abroad program is now in its 17th year. The primary goal of the program is to provide students with the opportunity to learn about Polish art and design firsthand. Students will also get the chance to be immersed in Polish culture as they meet local students and artists, take in the sights and sounds of Katowice, and travel to the historical cities of Krakow and Opole.

Students will focus on graphic design and studio art practice. The program will integrate historical information and contemporary European graphic design and art trends. Professor Aleksandra Giza will accompany students on the trip. Professor Giza is a native of Poland and has taught at the NIU School of Art and Design for the past 23 years.

The students have a fantastic opportunity to experience numerous cultural centers within Silesia, in southern Poland. Although the focus of the study abroad program is design, there are many daily excursions to interesting sites that are unique to this region.

While the study abroad program in Poland has been the highlight of many NIU art students’ careers over the years, the fall 2024 trip is in danger of not happening. Due to budget cuts at the university, college and departmental levels, we currently do not have the funds for this trip to move forward. We are asking for your help raising at least $3,700 over the next month so that this experiential journey can get approved for our students.
