Our Crowdfunding Groups
In November 2022, Dr. King Chung and five NIU audiology students joined forces with students and faculty from Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) in Brazil on a mission trip to Kraków, Poland.
They provided free hearing services for school children, members of a community center, and Ukrainian refugees at Krakow, Poland.
While their initial intention was to examine the hearing status and the hearing health care needs of the refugees, the team was overwhelmed by the number of Ukrainian refugees with hearing loss!
The trip to Krakow, Poland, was particularly impactful and Chung and her students saw firsthand the consequences of the war in Ukraine.
Looking ahead, the NIU team has successfully solicited high-performance rechargeable hearing aids from a hearing aid manufacturer for the refugees.
Over NIU spring break (March 12-19), a second team of NIU students and faculty will join forces with students and faculty from University of Sao Paulo, Bauru and Federal University of Paraiba, Joao Pesseo. The group will return to Krakow to fit the hearing aids to 43 refugees.
A total of eight NIU students need our support to sponsor their humanitarian efforts. Your donation is tax deductible.

Your donation of $20 will feed a student on the trip for one day! We need to support eight students for daily meals over the 9-day trip!
For $25, you can support local transportation for students to go back and forth from testing sites/living quarters. We need support for eight students ($200 total investment)
AA batteries are needed to power the portable equipment. Your donation of $40 will cover the batteries needed for the trip.
Students will take a field trip to Auschwitz Concentration Camp while in Poland. Your donation will cover the entry ticket, guide and transportation for one student. We need support for eight students.
The team needs to ship three bags of hearing-testing equipment in order to perform their services. The estimated fee for three bags (to and from Krakow) is $450 ($75 for each bag, each way)
Your donation will support the purchase of audiology and cleaning supplies.
Shared housing has been secured for the students in Poland. Your donation towards $150 will fund one student for the 8 night/9 day trip! We need support for eight students ($1,200)
Your donation towards round-trip airfare will support an NIU student when they travel to Poland March 12-19, 2023. We need support for eight students.
