Equipped for Excellence:
Help build a real-world learning space.
Supporting our Athletic Training facilities will provide
state-of-the-art equipment, supplies and instructional resources.
NIU’s Athletic Training program – one of the oldest in Illinois – counts more than 250 graduates in its storied history. Our faculty and clinical staff foster the academic growth of innovative health care professionals committed to patient-centered care, equitably serving diverse communities and cultivating the best-possible outcomes.
We accomplish this through contemporary expertise, evidence-based practice, interprofessional education, hands-on clinical experience and exposure to emergent settings.
Because the 2020 updates to the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education standards emphasize clinical reasoning, evidence-based practice and advanced clinical skills, we hope to create a laboratory that mimics a real-world athletic training facility and would help our students to bridge the gap between classroom learning and clinical experience.
Why is this important?
Students are educated in the five domains of athletic training: injury/illness prevention and wellness protection; clinical evaluation and diagnosis; immediate and emergency care; treatment and rehabilitation; and organization and professional health and well-being.
The Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education also strives to recruit and retain a diverse group of students to facilitate a culturally inclusive learning environment.
