Our Crowdfunding Groups
Help our graduating seniors prepare as they start their exciting new careers as artists. The College of Visual and Performing Arts seeks to raise $6,000 to assist in the following ways:
School of Art and Design
Each year, under normal conditions, the School of Art and Design requires students to undertake capstone projects that are instrumental in assisting them to find their place in the workforce. Particularly for students completing their terminal MFA degrees capstone projects are exhibitions that take place within the arts community in highly visible public settings. The costs for both the institution and students associated with mounting these events are significant. Typically, downtown Chicago venues are selected for graduate students to provide optimum exposure. The costs of running and exhibition in these locations include the following.
During the pandemic year public exhibitions were not possible so students have been forced to mount digital exhibitions. The cost of developing and managing websites appropriate to house large shows is significant. This requires hiring of web designers’ time.
In addition to the virtual show itself support materials and archival materials such as printed copy (exhibition catalogue).
School of Music
The capstone course for all music majors is the recital. These might be a senior recital, graduate recital, composition recital or a conducting recital. In each case the recital is the culmination of years of private lessons, hours upon hours of practice, rehearsals and course work in music theory, analysis, aural skills and many other fields.
COVID has limited, and sometimes forbidden, audiences and forced many of the recitals to be performed for a live stream broadcast. This involves additional fees, equipment and recording crews to produce. For students that have not been able to do face to face performances, the recitals have become recording projects that require studio production, recording and editing. Typical recitals average between $75-150.
School of Theatre and Dance
The funds raised would provide support for graduating students’ in Dance, Design & Technology, and Acting with transition into their competitive professions, including an industry showcase, registration at professional employment conferences, travel to festivals, etc.
Due to COVID, in person events—a life blood of theatre and dance—have been cancelled for over a year. Reentry into normalcy requires greater energy and inventiveness in pursuing every employment opportunity available in the field.
Our students produce great work and go on to do amazing things, any amount helps us support more and more of that tremendous art as they move into their chosen fields.
Donations will help us fund the basic materials and resources our students need.
As our world changes, so do the resources our graduates need to have to showcase their works, audition and interview, and much of it is online.
Recital recording for music, dance/action reels and 3-D digital works - Recitals, Reels and Exhibitions.
Upgrades to equipment to provide state of the art resources to our students.
Help artists attend industry showcase, registration funding for professional employment conferences, travel to festivals, portfolio creation and exhibitions.
